Deron Lovaas

For 25 years, Deron Lovaas has closely monitored and advocated for state and federal public policies that improve the energy and environmental performance of our built environment. He currently serves as a senior policy advisor for the Natural Resources Defense Council’s (NRDC) Urban Solutions Program. His portfolio includes projects focused on energy efficiency, affordable housing, and transportation infrastructure. He previously served as NRDC’s director of federal transportation policy and chief strategist for advancing bipartisan oil-savings legislation and renewing the nation’s transportation laws.

During his tenure at NRDC he has testified before congressional committees and subcommittees nine times, and has authored or co-authored four book chapters on transportation energy use, as well as numerous publications and articles in print and online. He has served on several energy and transportation advisory committees and is currently on the board of the Greenroads Foundation. Before joining NRDC in 2001, he worked for the National Wildlife Federation, the Maryland Department of the Environment, Zero Population Growth, and the Sierra Club. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
