Transportation accounts for the largest share of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, and electric vehicles are central to any serious decarbonization strategy. In many cases, shifting to electric vehicles also saves drivers money by reducing their fuel costs. 

Transitioning to electric vehicles is a massive project. The benefits depend not just on the vehicles themselves, but also on the electricity that powers them, the infrastructure that supports them, and policies that ensure equitable access for all communities. 

ACEEE supports every level of this transition: analyzing EV efficiency and lifecycle emissions, advocating for strong policies, and equipping communities with the tools to make electrification work for everyone.

Our Transportation Electrification Scorecard evaluates state policies that drive the deployment of light- and heavy-duty EVs and the charging infrastructure that supports them. It tracks equitable progress toward clean mobility goals and encourages states to act. We also provide technical assistance to support local governments with preparing for electric vehicle adoption in their communities.
