ACEEE’s priorities for the surface transportation reauthorization include investments in clean freight projects that create jobs, support for underinvested communities, and strengthening local capacity to plan, finance, and deliver projects. The next reauthorization bill should include reauthorization of National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) and Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) programs with an increased emphasis on medium- and heavy-duty charging as well as continued investments in port infrastructure to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and reduce freight costs. The bill should also fund technical assistance to support state and local government planning efforts to reduce project delays and costs and improve stakeholder engagement.
