Washington, DC—David Friedman will join the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as senior director for research, the group announced today. Friedman brings senior-level government and nonprofit experience, equipping him to oversee the organization’s research programs on buildings, industry, transportation, and behavior.
“David brings the strategic thinking, management experience, and research chops we need,” said Jennifer Layke, ACEEE executive director. “ACEEE is known for rigorous evidence and analysis that helps spotlight opportunities to improve efficiency across the U.S. economy.”
David Friedman said, “For an energy and transportation wonk like me, ACEEE is the right home in this moment. Families are struggling with high utility bills and gasoline prices. Now is the time to double down on efficiency to deliver the most affordable energy of all: the energy you never have to use.”
Friedman served in the U.S. Department of Energy as acting assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy, leading a $2 billion organization. He was earlier the acting administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He has held senior roles at Rewiring America, Consumer Reports, and the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Friedman will serve as a member of ACEEE’s executive team. He begins his new role today.
