WRI Global Energy Program Head to Succeed Steven Nadel

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) today named globally recognized energy and sustainability leader Jennifer Layke its next executive director. She will join ACEEE on November 6.

Layke (pronounced “LAY-kee”) brings three decades of experience in the energy sector building coalitions and delivering results across business, cities, and national policy. Highlights include:

  • World Resources Institute (WRI): Global director for energy for the last nine years; led initiatives that helped major buyers procure clean power and cities improve building performance, including the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance and the Building Efficiency Accelerator.
  • Johnson Controls: Founder and director, Institute for Building Efficiency; advised customers worldwide on practical efficiency solutions.

“Jennifer brings exactly the leadership we need to expand ACEEE’s impact amid rising energy demand and affordability challenges,” said Penni McLean-Conner, chair of ACEEE’s board and executive vice president at Eversource Energy. “Her track record in innovation and partnership will strengthen our reach with policymakers, businesses, and communities.”

Jennifer Layke said, “I’m honored to join ACEEE at this pivotal moment. Energy efficiency cuts costs for families and businesses while reducing pollution, and we need that even more urgently today. I’m eager to work with the ACEEE team and our partners to accelerate policies and programs that reduce energy waste and improve lives.”

Layke succeeds Steven Nadel, who has led and grown the organization for 24 years.

Founded in 1980, ACEEE is the nation’s leading organization for advancing energy efficiency in buildings, transportation, and industry. Its research, policy advocacy, and partnership initiatives have championed equitable efficiency programs and decision-making, supported state and local best practices through widely cited scorecards, and advanced cost-saving appliance and equipment standards. ACEEE has an annual budget of more than $15 million and has approximately 70 staff members in Washington, D.C., and across the country.
