David Friedman

Senior Director for Research

David Friedman supports and directs ACEEE’s research team, guiding the organization’s research agenda, ensuring high quality, rigor and relevance to today’s most pressing household and national energy and economic issues. He joined ACEEE in 2026 to continue his work to help make the world a better place.

Prior to joining ACEEE, David held leadership roles at multiple NGOs (Union of Concerned Scientists, Consumer Reports and Rewiring America) and led two federal agencies (the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

David holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and completed all coursework towards a Ph.D. in transportation technology and policy at U.C. Davis.
