OPPORTUNITY

National 501c4 nonprofit organization seeks qualified candidates for the position of Northeast Regional Organizer for Offshore Wind (NRO). This position is represented by the United Steelworkers Local Union, 2022-22.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The NRO will track and review all actions related to offshore wind energy development in the Northeast United States. The NRO will engage and mobilize labor and environmental organizations and coalitions across the region to support BGA's initiatives on a high-road offshore wind industry, transmission, and clean energy manufacturing.

The NRO will work closely with BGA's Director of Offshore Wind and state, policy, research, and communications staff to design and implement an organizing and policy plan to advance key regional priorities.

The NRO will work remotely and should reside in New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Maine with regional travel expectations and occasional travel outside of the area (5-20% travel, depending on location).

 

Essential Duties of this role: 

  • Track proceedings, state legislation, and actions related to offshore wind energy and evaluate alignment with BGA's platform.
  • Build engagement and collaboration with BGA's partner organizations and allies in the region to grow support for key priorities.
  • Develop and implement a strategic regional plan with the director of offshore wind to advance priorities, including information gathering, policy development, direct advocacy, and other activities.
  • Develop relationships with and engage labor, environmental, environmental justice, and racial equity leaders across the Northeast. Develop policy proposals, engage policymakers and regulators, and facilitate coordination between partners, other organizations, and state agencies to share experience, knowledge, and innovative policy approaches that enhance jobs and equity in offshore wind deployment.
  • Convene partners and stakeholders on core policy priorities regarding job quality and a domestic supply chain for offshore wind energy.
  • Work with communications staff to accurately deliver strategic messaging and communications to a wide range of audiences including the media, policymakers, etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Develop policy proposals and comments to achieve BGA's state and regional priorities, in collaboration with other BGA staff.
  • Regularly attend virtual and in person offshore wind events such as coalition meetings, workshops, or conferences to stay up to date on developments in the industry.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to travel regularly across the Northeast United States, with occasional out-of-area travel;
  • Fluency in technology platforms and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong analytic and strategic-thinking skills;
  • Ability to create and implement organizing plans;
  • Strong skills in developing mutually respectful, trusting, and effective internal and external relationships;
  • Exhibit a positive and respectful manner with colleagues, partners, and allies;
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, detail-oriented;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and take an innovative approach to organizing;

EXPERIENCE

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience in policy organizing, legislative or regulatory work or related field; or a combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of one year experience working collaboratively on issues related to climate change, renewable energy, manufacturing, and/or labor issues;
  • Experience in, or basic understanding of, the evolving Offshore Wind policy landscape.

Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of and experience in the political landscape in the Northeast.
  • Experience with labor unions.
  • Experience creating and implementing policy organizing plans.
  • Experience in, or understanding of, electrical transmission and the power sector.
  • Experience with/understanding of manufacturing, economic, labor, and/or energy/environmental policy.

COMPENSATION

A compensation package including competitive salary with annual COLA increases, generous paid time off and 100% employer-funded health benefits is available.

 

Salary

The salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 annually, exempt. Final salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
