DOE’s SuperTruck Program: Slashing Fuel Waste from Tractor-Trailers

The Department of Energy’s SuperTruck Program is a partnership with truck manufacturers and suppliers launched in 2010 to improve freight efficiency by 50 percent. This fact sheet discusses the benefits of the first phase of the program, including U.S. manufacturers’ introduction of several key fuel-saving technologies that can save truck operators and consumers nearly $20 billion. The second phase of SuperTruck, which begins in 2017 and runs through 2021, aims to improve freight efficiency by 100%.
