California

  • 8 weeks of paid family and medical leave/year
  • 2025 benefit caps at $1,681/week
  • CA PFL is funded through the State Disability Insurance tax withholding, noted as “CASDI” on paystubs
  • 2025 employee contribution rate is 1.2%, paid by ACEEE
  • Benefit is in effect

Colorado

  • 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave/year
  • Benefit caps at $1,324.21/week
  • CO FAMLI is funded through payroll deductions
  • Based on 0.9% of wages (0.45 EE; 0.45 ER)
  • Premiums are paid on wages up to the federal
  • Social security wage cap (2025 = $176,100)
  • Benefit is in effect

Maryland

  • 2/2025 Potential delay to the start of this program. If new timeline is passed:
    • Payroll deductions would begin January 1, 2027
    • Benefits would become available on January 1, 2028
  • Contributions to the program will begin for both the employer and employees on July 1, 2025.
  • Eligible employees may begin to use program benefits on July 1, 2026
  • Provides eligible employees with 12 (but in some cases, 24) weeks of paid leave
  • Benefit caps at $1,000.00/week
  • MD PFML is funded through payroll deductions
  • Total rate of 0.9% of covered wages up to the Social Security wage base

Massachusetts

 

Minnesota

  • 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave/year
  • MN PFML is funded through payroll deductions
  • PFML premiums won't be collected until January 1, 2026.
  • PFML benefits will start on January 1, 2026.

New Jersey

  • 12 weeks of paid family and paid disability/year
  • Benefit caps at $1,081/week
  • NJ TDI/FLI are funded through payroll deductions. In 2025, the employee contribution will be 0.23% (TDI - up to $380.42) and 0.33% (FLI - up to $545.82) of the first $165,400.

New York

  • 2025 benefit caps at $1,177.32/week
  • NY PFL is funded through payroll deductions. In 2025, the employee contribution will be 0.388% of an employee’s gross wages each pay period.
  • The maximum annual contribution is $354.53 and is paid by ACEEE.

Washington

  • Up to 18 weeks of paid family/medical leave/year
  • Benefit caps at $1,542/week
  • WA PFL is funded through payroll deductions.
    In 2025, the total premium is 0.92% of employee wages up to the federal Social Security taxable wage maximum ($176,100 in 2025), with the  employee contribution being 71.52% of the total premium . ACEEE pays this contribution.
