Canadian Strategic Energy Management Market Study

Canada has set ambitious targets for energy efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. Strategic energy management (SEM) creates a foundation for continual efficiency improvements that can result in incremental and persistent energy savings and emission reductions. Recognizing this potential, Canadian leaders have asked “How can SEM growth help Canada accomplish its GHG goals?”

This report examines the potential for SEM to reduce energy use and GHG emissions by 2030. The results show that expanding SEM programs and practices across Canada could be a valuable contributor to GHG emission reductions, achieving 1–19% of Canada’s emissions reduction objective for the industrial sector (46 million metric tons/year of CO2e), depending on the scenario.
