Comments on EPA/NHTSA Notice of Intent to Conduct a Joint Rulemaking for 2017 and Later Model Year Light Duty Vehicle GHG Emissions and CAFE Standards

ACEEE strongly supports the adoption of standards that will bring the greatest cost-effective reduction in energy consumption and GHG emissions from light-duty vehicles. We applaud EPA and NHTSA for the substantive and forward-looking Notice of Intent they have issued in this crucial matter. We concur with the agencies’ assessment that, in order to thrive in the global automotive market, domestic manufacturers will need to invest consistently in technologies to improve fuel efficiency, and we believe that standards can help to achieve that outcome.
