Energy efficiency is a global challenge and a global opportunity. Countries that invest in efficiency reduce energy costs, lower emissions, and build more resilient economies. ACEEE tracks how well the world’s largest energy consumers are meeting this challenge through our International Energy Efficiency Scorecard, the most comprehensive cross-country comparison of energy efficiency policy and performance available. 

Published since 2012, the Scorecard evaluates the buildings, industry, transportation, and energy supply sectors of major economies — offering policymakers, investors, and advocates a rigorous measure of where countries stand and where they have room to improve. ACEEE also draws on international experience to inform U.S. policy, identifying what other countries have done well and where the United States can learn from global leaders.

As energy demand grows worldwide and the clean energy transition accelerates, the stakes for getting efficiency policy right have never been higher. ACEEE’s international work provides the evidence base that helps countries benchmark their progress, identify high-impact opportunities, and make the case for stronger action.
