What is the role?

Michaels Energy is seeking an energy efficiency professional with experience in utility program evaluation. The Research & Evaluation Project Manager oversees and contributes to the execution of quantitative and qualitative research efforts for our clients in the energy industry. They are responsible for all aspects of project delivery for their clients. Project management responsibilities include managing plans, budgets, timelines, and deliverables as well as conducting some project work.   • Project Management
    • Leads impact and process evaluations and other research for energy efficiency and distributed energy resources programs
    • Manages project scope, budget, and timelines throughout the length of the project
    • Collaborates with the engineering team to set scope, budget, and processes
    • Determines staff levels and works with Engineering Lead to determine staff skillsets needed for a project
    • Conducts primary and secondary research
    • Oversees and contributes to data analysis, reporting, and other deliverables
    • Responsible for final QA/QC of deliverables
    • Responsible for managing budget and timeline throughout projects
  • Client Satisfaction
    • Acts as clients’ main point of contact for projects
    • Responsible for client satisfaction and achievement of project objectives
    • Contributes to expanding client share
    • Responsible for escalating issues to the leadership team
    • Implements process changes to maximize value
  • Strategy
    • Determines project strategy to achieve high-quality deliverables
    • Collaborates with the business development team to understand market and client needs and create compelling proposals

After 3 months, you will have….

  • Learned Michaels internal processes and business practices
  • Been introduced to key client contacts
  • Contributed to ongoing Research & Evaluation projects

After 6 months, you will have….

  • Managed a project independently
  • Led meetings with clients
  • Developed familiarity with industry and evaluation issues

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, data science, economics, or related field
  • Minimum of two years of utility energy efficiency program implementation or evaluation and/or consulting project management experience
  • Experience with energy efficiency, demand response, or distributed energy resources programs
  • Experience analyzing quantitative data
  • Must be detail-oriented, analytical, and highly motivated
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Software skills: MS Office, especially Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience conducting impact and process evaluations
  • Experience with statistics and sampling
  • Experience with R, Stata, Python, SAS, GIS software


  • Up to 15% for site visits, client meetings and to other Michaels locations
