A national energy and environmental services organization, TRC Companies provides its services to America's major industries, utilities, banks, insurance companies and federal, state and local government agencies.

TRC Advanced Energy is seeking a qualified individual to support commercial energy efficiency and demand management programs in Northern California. Responsibilities may include energy analysis, site inspections, technical writing, and project management for multiple commercial and small business energy efficiency and electrification projects and/or customers. Candidates must possess strong technical capabilities including knowledge of building systems, energy efficiency, demand management, sustainability and building decarbonization. The desired candidate will work collaboratively with the Advanced Energy team and clients to provide field support and implement market transforming programs across California.

The candidate will be presented with the challenge of a diverse range of projects found in commercial energy systems. There will be significant interface with clients that may require travel. The position requires the ability to manage projects, and lead, direct, and coordinate the work of team members (internal and external) of varied backgrounds. This position requires flexibility; diversity of technical expertise; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; and excellent customer care skills. The candidate will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of complicated tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule site visits with customers;
  • Confirm project scopes of work with customer and confirm that scopes match project applications and records;
  • Conduct inspections to document existing building conditions, operations, and schedules and to identify potential efficiency and electrification measures;
  • Conduct inspections to verify that the measures meet program quality standards;
  • Provide design and technical assistance to projects and recommend relevant measures;
  • Provide customer support with the energy work scope development;
  • Provide technical guidance and support in addressing onsite issues;
  • Develop inspection reports that summarize on-site findings and include photographs and action items to resolve discrepancies;
  • Work with customers and contractors to resolve discrepancies identified on site


  • Associate's degree and at least one year relevant experience, or at least four years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in construction, energy engineering, inspection, or related building science field;
  • Established critical thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
  • Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and customer-focused;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Established presentation and public speaking skills
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in MS Office and use of Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Experience with lighting, refrigeration, water heating, and HVAC is desirable
  • Certifications such as Certified Energy Auditor (C.E.A.), Certified Energy Manager (C.E.M.), Home Energy Rating System (HERS), or Building Performance Institute (BPI) is desirable
  • Local Travel Required: Up to 60%
