Gas-Turbine-Based CHP in Industry - CADDET 9

Author Info Centre for the Analysis and Dissemination of Demonstrated Energy Technologies

Details CADDET Analyses Series 9, April 1993

Industrial gas turbine systems have developed considerably since their early use as scarcely-modified aero engines. Their development has enabled them to follow separate lines to meet the objectives and criteria of the particular application of the gas turbine cycle. They are still being improved, notably in terms of their electrical and total efficiency and their heat to power ratio. This Analysis Report examines the current state of the art in the technology, identifying and exploring the important technical and economic parameters which determine its application and performance. Consideration is given to the environmental aspects of its use, and to the problem of matching systems with the industrial processes of which they are a part.

The Analysis draws on 27 projects in nine countries over a wide range of industries and a range of electrical output from 500 kW to 40 MW. It is based on information already in CADDET's database supplemented by results of a questionnaire to CADDET National Teams and the findings of a CADDET Expert/End user meeting on Industrial CHP.
