Choices Revisited: An Examination of the Costs and Benefits of Maine's Energy
Policy
ACEEE, Economic Research Associates and Tellus Institute
1994
Summary
Maine has been a leader in the development of energy-efficiency technologies. This in-depth analysis shows that while the state's utility rates have increased by more than 35% in recent years, the alternative energy policies appear to have contributed less than one-third of that total. On the other hand, the energy-efficiency and renewable energy industry now support more than 6,000 jobs in Maine and have significantly reduced the level of air emissions.
