WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American Council for an Energy-Efficient
Economy (ACEEE) is pleased to announce its new report profiling
63 energy efficiency programs selected from around the country for
their "best practices." These 63 programs are spread across
20 different program categories, ranging from commercial new construction
to residential lighting. ACEEE selected these programs from over
130 programs nominated in a national search.
America's Best: Profiles of America's Leading Energy Efficiency
Programs summarizes an awards program initiated by ACEEE in 2002
to recognize outstanding energy efficiency programs and honor the
people and organizations responsible for their success. In addition
to profiles of each honored program, the report also includes observations
on the nominated and honored programs.
An expert panel reviewed all the nominations and selected the programs
to be honored and profiled in this report. The programs selected
for honors were deemed to be especially noteworthy for their effectiveness
and innovation in helping customers achieve greater levels of energy
efficiency in their homes, businesses, and facilities. In doing
so, these programs helped reduce customers' energy costs and also
yielded significant broader economic and environmental benefits.
According to Martin Kushler, Ph.D., ACEEE's Utilities Program Director,
"We sought to recognize the many unsung heroes of state and
utility efforts to improve energy efficiency, and spotlight these
programs as models for others to emulate."
"These programs clearly demonstrate the maturation and sophistication
of today's best energy efficiency programs," commented Dan
York, ACEEE's Utilities Research Associate and project director.
He added, "While these programs are diverse in many respects,
they share a number of attributes, including an emphasis on partnerships
and collaborations, a focus on customer needs, and a goal of providing
high-quality services to customers. Most importantly, they all share
a track record of successfully delivering significant energy savings."
