ACEEE Names Three Champions of Energy Efficiency

Pacific Grove, California — The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) presented three Champion of Energy Efficiency Awards last night at its 16th biennial Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. The awards recognize leadership and accomplishment in the energy efficiency field. Winners are selected based on demonstrated excellence in program implementation, research and development, energy policy, or private sector initiatives. The winners for 2010 are:

• Northwest Power and Conservation Planning Council for nation-leading power planning efforts that have already resulted in nearly 4,000 average megawatts of energy savings and that will, over the next 20 years, provide 85% of the Northwest's needs for new electric resources.

• Jeff Genzer for over 25 years of effective work on energy efficiency policies and programs, including work with state energy offices and the federal government on such topics as building codes, performance contracting, and energy efficiency programs funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) — in particular, for playing a critical role in addressing implementation challenges under ARRA.

• Wal-Mart for leadership on energy efficiency including using innovative energy-saving technologies and designs in its stores, enhancing efforts to sell energy-saving products to its customers, assisting its suppliers with reducing their energy use, and sharing best practice ideas with others.

The winners were nominated by their peers, and selected by a committee of ACEEE’s Board of Directors from an impressive group of over 40 nominations. Selection criteria were based on each nominee’s impact, innovation, and leadership in the energy efficiency field.
