Tailpipe Emissions Standards (Low-Emission Vehicle Program)

Summary: Washington adopted California’s Low-Emission Vehicle Program in 2005, committing to a 30% reduction in average new vehicle greenhouse gas emissions from 2002 levels by 2016.

State Tax Incentives for High Efficiency and Alternative-Fuel Vehicles

Summary: Starting January 1st, 2009 all alternative-fuel vehicles (AFVs) will be exempt from state sales and use tax. Hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) that achieve a minimum of 40 mpg according to U.S. EPA estimates will also qualify for the exemption.
