Building Codes

Vermont Residential Building Energy Standards (RBES) & Commercial Building Energy Standards (CBES)

Summary:

Vermont's Residential Building Energy Standard (RBES) is a statewide code based on the 2000 IECC (with state-specific amendments) that is mandatory for residential buildings. The 2005 Guidelines for Energy Efficient Commercial Construction is based on the IECC 2004 Supplement and an alternative path of ASHRAE 90.1-2004 with amendments. State-wide Commercial Building Energy Standards, establishing energy codes for all commercial buildings and residential structures of 4 or more stories was enacted in 2006, and effective as of January 1, 2007.
