Tailpipe Emissions Standards (Low-Emission Vehicle Program)

Summary: New Mexico adopted California's Low-Emission Vehicle Program in November of 2007 and has joined California's efforts against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) to obtain the waiver that makes the new standards legal under the Clean Air Act.

State Tax Incentives for High Efficiency and Alternative-Fuel Vehicles

Summary: The state of New Mexico provides first-time buyers of hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) with U.S. EPA estimated combined fuel economy of at least 27.5mpg, with a one-time exemption from the vehicle excise tax payment. HEVs qualify for an exemption until June 20th, 2009.
