Building Codes

New Mexico State Energy Codes

Summary:

Both New Mexico's residential and commercial energy codes are mandatory statewide. The residential code requires compliance with the 2006 IECC. The commercial code requires compliance with ASHRAE 90.1-2004.

The Construction Industries Division is currently in the process of updating the statewide codes to the 2009 IECC, with additional measures that will result in at least a 20% energy savings over the 2006 IECC. These new statewide codes should be completed and in place by mid-2010. Two jurisdictions, Albuquerque and Santa Fe, have building codes in effect this year that are beyond the 2006 IECC. Albuquerque's codes go into effect on Dec 1 and are approximately 30% better than the 2006 IECC for residential and commercial. Santa Fe's residential codes are substantially better than 2006 IECC as well.
