New and Existing State Building Requirements

Summary: Nevada Revised Statutes Title 58, Chapter 701 directs the Director of the Office of Energy to develop a state energy reduction plan requiring state agencies to reduce grid-based energy purchases for state-owned buildings by 20% by 2015. It also requires the Director to adopt guidelines establishing a Green Building Standards for all occupied public buildings whose construction will be sponsored or financed by the State or a local government.

Summary: Recent legislation passed in 2009 (SB 395) requires the Chief of Purchasing Division to adopt regulations establishing standards favoring the procurement of appliances, equipment, lighting, and other equipment that bear the ENERGY STAR label.

Note: For state efficient fleet initiatives, policies listed must make a specific, mandatory requirement for increasing state fleet efficiency. State alternative-fuel vehicle procurement requirements that give a voluntary option to count efficient vehicles are thus not included.
