Standby Rates: Nevada Power Company Schedule LSR |
Description: Nevada Power Company’s Schedule LSR is applicable to systems between 500kW and 20MW in capacity. This schedule is favorable toward CHP and is viewed as incentivizing reliability and maintenance with its demand charge structure for forced outages. The energy charges in this schedule are moderate.

CHP in Renewable Portfolio/Energy Efficiency Standards: Energy Portfolio Standard |
Description: Nevada's Energy Portfolio Standard (EPS) was initiated in 1997 and was expanded to include energy savings from efficiency measures in 2005. It requires the state's two investor-owned utilities, Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power, to derive or save a minimum percentage of the electricity they sell from renewable energy resources or energy efficiency measures. The EPS requirement is nine percent for 2007 and 2008, increasing three percent every two years to reach 20 percent in 2015 and thereafter. CHP systems are eligible under the EPS as a "qualified energy recovery process." Eligible CHP units must be 15 MW or less, and only "the heat from exhaust stacks or pipes used for engines or manufacturing or industrial processes" used to generate electricity is considered to be an eligible CHP process.
