State Tax Incentives for High Efficiency and Alternative-Fuel Vehicles

Summary: The District of Columbia allows owners of hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs) and Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) to be exempt from vehicle excise taxes. However, this exemption applies only if the vehicle also qualifies for a federal tax credit under the Energy Policy act of 2005. Reduced vehicle registration fees also apply to owners of such vehicles.
