About the Conference (Original Announcement):

ACEEE and CEE are pleased to announce the tenth annual National Symposium on Market Transformation. For the past decade, the Symposium has brought together policy makers, program planners, implementers and evaluators, as well as manufacturers and trade allies to discuss the latest progress in the field of market transformation. Since the inaugural workshop in 1997, we've witnessed considerable growth and change within the field of market transformation in response to shifts in the economic, political, and regulatory climate for energy efficiency programs and services. The Symposium seeks to address opportunities and challenges within the field with a stimulating program covering the latest hot topics, updates on current program approaches, new strategies for program design, integration of multiple program objectives, and evaluation methodologies.

The 2006 National Symposium on Market Transformation will highlight successes achieved to date and explore the challenges and approaches to building on these successes. In keeping with the symposium theme "The Next 10 Years," sessions will explore the ways that market transformation efforts can build on past successes and continue to create lasting changes in the market for energy-efficient products and services. For example, we will look at ways to increase integration between market transformation and other approaches in order to better achieve mutual goals. Participants will also hear about the latest innovative program designs and promising approaches to addressing future challenges. Sessions will include:

  • An opening plenary exploring what market transformation can deliver in the face of crises. The session will look at short- and long-term responses to address supply constraints, price spikes, and other extraordinary events. Prominent speakers will share their experiences with Symposium participants.

  • Larger breakout sessions covering the latest activities by region; what's happening with the 2005 Energy Policy Act; integrated DSM; programs for short-term gas savings; evaluation of marketing efforts; and the next big ideas in emerging technologies and practices.

  • Finally, smaller working sessions allowing participants to discuss a number of important and timely topics. Five program tracks will cover residential programs, commercial programs, industrial programs, evaluation and market research, and cross-cutting topics. Sessions will cover a host of market transformation programs, energy-efficient products and practices, issues in program evaluation, and much more.
