2008 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry

Informal Sessions Description

Additional Informal Sessions may be organized on-site during the Summer Study.

Closing the Loop: Improving Measured Performance Feedback for Commercial Buildings

Cathy Turner

Tuesday, August 19
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Timely reports of actual commercial building energy performance are essential for progress towards a low carbon future. But attempts to gather even the simplest energy use data are often time-intensive and give insufficient feedback to motivate action. A national Steering Committee is articulating an agenda and facilitating communication to address these critical needs. This session will include an overview of the priorities identified by this group, which encompasses representatives of building designers, operators, and developers as well as researchers, ASHRAE, DOE, EPA, USGBC, and utilities. Discussion topics will include: what’s needed for better benchmarking of new construction performance, how utility companies can facilitate accessibility of performance data, and identifying the key items you would most like to know about performance of buildings that you have personally designed, developed technology for, or worked in.
