Building Networks: The Internet as a Model for Success?
Bruce Nordman
Thursday, August 21
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
The Internet has enabled great gains in our ability to manage and
exchange information, with many powerful applications not even
imagined by the architects architects who created the infrastructure.
Building networks could someday similarly enable ways to manage
and save energy that we today don't see as possible or likely, and
that could not be accomplished any other way.
The purpose of this session is to discuss some of the lessons that
the development of the Internet holds for building networks (connecting
principally non-electronic devices like lighting and climate control),
and any R&D or policy needs to ensure that building networks
evolve in ways that are similarly effective and successful as the Internet.
