2008 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry

Informal Sessions Description

Additional Informal Sessions may be organized on-site during the Summer Study.

1,000 Home Challenge: Demonstrating Deep Reductions (70 - 90%) in Existing US and Canadian Homes

Linda Wigington

Monday, August 18
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Join 1,000 Home Challenge stakeholders in a review of the status of the Guidance Document for the pilot phase of the 1,000 Home Challenge. The purpose of the 1,000 Home Challenge is to demonstrate the feasibility of achieving 70 - 90 % reductions in energy use across a variety of existing housing vintages and climates. This collaborative effort is designed to stimulate innovation and product development, and to explore both the potential and limitations of transforming existing housing stock. Strategies include a combination of efficiency, behavioral choices, community solutions, and renewables, with priority on load reduction. Join in a lively discussion to help refine the definition of indicators of performance that will be used to answer the essential questions - "70 - 90% reduction of what?" And, "When is deep, deep?"
