Kelly Gordon, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Thursday, August 21
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, Sec. 655 established the Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prizes (L Prize), directing the Department of Energy to recognize high-efficiency solid state lighting products capable of replacing today's most commonly used incandescent light sources. The legislation authorizes up to $20 million in prizes for LED products to replace the standard A19 60W incandescent and PAR-38 halogen lamps. Winning products must have 25,000 hour life, at least 90 CRI, and performance as follows: 1) 60-watt incandescent replacement lamp: less than 10 watts, more than 900 lumens, more than 90 lm/W; 2) PAR-38 halogen replacement lamp: less than 11 watts, more than 1,350 lumens, more than 123 lm/W. This session is an opportunity for utilities and energy efficiency programs to learn and ask questions about the L Prize competition, including expected timing of entries, the evaluation and testing process, and how programs can get involved.
