About the Conference (Original Announcement)

ACEEE's National Conference on Energy Efficiency as a Resource is the premier meeting in the U.S. on the subject of energy efficiency as a utility-system resource and has been held biennially since 2001. The "EER" conference is an ideal opportunity to explore cutting-edge issues relating to energy efficiency as a resource.

In the two years since the last conference, continuing developments at the state, national, and global level have served to heighten even further the importance of energy efficiency as a resource. Soaring energy prices, continued concerns over utility system reliability, and the growing awareness of environmental cost risks associated with increasing energy consumption, have all contributed to an unprecedented level of interest in the use of energy efficiency as a strategic resource.

This year's conference is an ideal opportunity to explore cutting-edge issues relating to the energy efficiency resource. The conference will focus on a number of impressive advances being made in energy efficiency policies and programs, for both the electricity and natural gas sectors. Topics addressed will include:

  • Recent examples of state policies enacted to increase the contribution of energy efficiency as a utility system resource
  • State experience with regulatory mechanisms to encourage utility sector energy efficiency, including decoupling and shareholder incentives
  • Leading state and regional examples of incorporating energy efficiency programs into efforts to achieve global warming objectives
  • Approaches for using energy efficiency as a resource to enhance electric system reliability, including both generation capacity as well as T&D system needs
  • Recent studies of energy efficiency potential
  • Documented examples of exemplary electric and natural gas energy efficiency programs

This conference will include a detailed update on the massive utility sector energy efficiency commitment occurring in California, as well as leading industry examples from other states and regions around the nation.
