Welcome to the 2006 ACEEE Summer Study in Buildings!

The 2006 ACEEE Summer Study is the 13th biennial ACEEE conference on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. A diverse group of energy efficiency professionals from around the world will gather at this pre-eminent meeting to discuss the technological basis for, and practical implementation of, improving energy use in buildings. Presentations and discussions will relate to the theme, "Less is More: En Route to Zero Energy Buildings." With recent advances in both energy efficiency and on-site energy production technologies, it is now possible to envision a time when buildings might provide most of their own energy needs. A number of buildings and communities already exist that have ventured onto this path. The great majority utilize the grid for backup, and in this sense are really aiming towards "net" zero energy use. Some would argue that the main impediment to wide market acceptance is to bring these technologies into the cost-competitive range. What do you think? Come join the dialogue and be heard at the 2006 Summer Study. Exchange ideas with some of the leading thinkers, visionaries, and luminaries in the field while experiencing the magnificent natural setting that is Asilomar. To encourage the dialogue we are continuing the trend toward more interactive and impromptu sessions. We invite you to contribute your most creative work in the following areas:

  • energy technologies and information technologies
  • market transformation
  • design and performance of buildings
  • program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • human and social dimensions of energy use
  • de/re-regulation of the utility industry and utility system reliability
  • efficient buildings in efficient communities
  • role of energy service companies
  • energy and environmental policies
  • international dimensions of energy efficiency
  • NEW!
  • More roundtables & interactive sessions
  • "Energy Conversations" panel
  • Full papers accepted for abstract submission
  • More networking time

The conference promotes the interaction among the participants through a balance of structured and unstructured sessions. Refereed papers are presented in the mornings, informal and display sessions in the afternoons, and plenary sessions in the evenings.
