Session Synopsis - "High Performance Buildings for High-Tech Industries: Part I
Data Center Update"

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Pacific Gas & Electric Company
ECOS Consulting
California Energy Commission
EPRI-PEAC

Monday, August 23
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Meeting the energy service demands of data denters entails consideration of critical interactions among process- and buildings-related loads, and attention to harmonizing efficiency, reliability, and process control. Raising the energy efficiency of data centers involves an integrated design with systems-level strategies, as well as component-level improvements. We will briefly present the current thinking on energy management opportunities in data centers, along with benchmarking results and self-benchmarking protocols that shed light on baseline conditions and best practices. Participants will also receive a sneak preview of results from research currently being sponsored by the California Energy Commission's PIER Program. The bulk of the session will follow a roundtable format and group discussion.
