Session Synopsis - "ENERGY STAR Residential Lighting Fixtures: New Developments in Technology and Program Design"

Peter Banwell, US EPA
Paul Vrabel, ICF Consulting

Tuesday, August 24

The recent dramatic increase in shipments of ENERGY STAR qualified residential lighting fixtures demonstrates growing market interest and demand. To continue building on this momentum EPA is working on several key outreach initiatives in various market segments. EPA is also revising the ENERGY STAR technical specification to further up the bar for quality and performance.

This session will include discussion on:

  • New products available to meet Title 24, including recessed cans.
  • Advancements in technology and the impact on the market.
  • New EPA outreach initiatives to manufacturers, builders, electrical distributors and other market actors.
  • The dramatic increase in ENERGY STAR qualified fixture shipments and the impact on regional and national programs.
  • Pending revisions to the ENERGY STAR technical specification (aka Eligibility Criteria).
  • EPA initiatives to improve color, socket standardization, and other performance factors.
