Session Synopsis - "Developing Innovative Housing Solutions for Low Income and Refugee Populations"

Art Rosenfeld, California Energy Commission

Thursday, August 26
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Meeting the housing needs of low-income and refugee populations in the United States and developing countries requires technology that reduces life-cycle costs while maintaining high levels of safety and durability. The Federation of American Scientists' Housing Technology Project is researching and developing housing envelope and appliance designs with the main performance goals of addressing seismic safety in woodless regions; energy efficiency in extreme temperatures to reduce both fuel required for heating and indoor air quality hazards; affordability and simplicity of construction in a post-emergency situation or low-income community, as well as ease of expansion for future development.
