Session Synopsis - "California Demand Responsive Hardware and Tariffs: Vision and Reality"

Art Rosenfeld, California Energy Commission

Tuesday, August 24
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

During the Spring, 2003 the California Energy Commission and California Public Utilities Commission developed a vision for how they would like to encourage additional demand response in the electricity sector. Since that time, all large customers (>200 kW) have been equipped with new 15-minute interval meters, numerous tariffs have been offered to larger customers, and a statewide pricing experiment has been undertaken to assess demand response and elasticities of smaller customers. In this session, we will discuss California's vision, describe the current response of larger customers to these new tariff offerings, and provide a summary of the preliminary results for smaller customers.
