2003 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry

Informal Sessions Description

Additional Informal Sessions may be organized on-site during the Summer Study.

Session Synopsis - "Energy Efficiency--Views from Developing Countries"

Yanjia Wang, Asia Pacific Energy Research Center

Thursday, July 31
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

This session will provide an opportunity for the participants to exchange their ideas and experiences on how to improve energy efficiency in industry in developing countries.

Energy efficiency in industry is a key issue in the industrialization stage. Energy/electricity intensity (ratio of energy use to GDP/ration of electricity use to GDP) increases continuously in most developing countries. Voluntary Agreements (VA), a promising way for industrial energy efficiency improvement adopted by developed countries, has not been received and understood by developing countries. Efforts should be made on promoting VA in developing countries as to what had been done on DSM ten years ago.
