Session Synopsis - "Daylight Performance Indices for the Integrated Design Process"

Christoph Reinhart, National Research Council Canada

Thursday, August 22
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The objective of this meeting is to identify meaningful daylight performance indices to compare different design variants during an integrated design process (IDP). The meeting should be of interest to architects and energy consultants who are routinely involved in IDPs. I will report on how performance indices -like the annual daylight availability or electric lighting demand for various lighting control systems- can be reliably calculated using freely available dynamic daylight simulation software and user behavioral models. During the following discussion it should become clear which of the "new" performance measures could be of practical relevance for energy-conscious building designers.
