Session
Synopsis - "Fostering Energy Efficiency Development in the
Asia-Pacific:
Framework for "APCEEE - the Asia-Pacific Council for Energy-Efficient
Economies""
Alan Meier, LBNL
Toru Kubo, ACEEE
Monday, August 19
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
This session will announce plans for APCEEE, the Asia-Pacific Council
for Energy-Efficient Economies. Energy consumption is projected
to grow faster in this region than any other throughout this Century.
It's time to act, to avoid the enormous "lost opportunities" that
would come from following historical paths elsewhere.
Summer Studies spawned ACEEE over 20 years ago, and ECEEE (Europe)
ten years ago. This is your chance to be present at the beginning
of another major effort. APCEEE will provide a forum for discussing
energy efficiency research and serve as an institution to promote
higher energy efficiency in the Asia-Pacific region. Major activities
will include:
- Organizing
and hosting a regional conference devoted to examining issues
related to energy efficiency in the Asia-Pacific region, including
technologies, policies, and behavior
- Undertaking
research on selected topics related to energy efficiency in the
region
- Collecting
and distributing information related to energy efficiency
This session will unveil a draft framework for APCEEE that was
developed by several interested organizations, and develop concrete
plans for making APCEEE important for the Asia-Pacific region.
