Commercial Heat Pump Water Heating

To help New York State businesses and institutions save on hot water heating costs, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and ACEEE performed a study to promote heat pump water heater (HPWH) technology. Heat pump water heaters use electricity and waste heat in the environment to heat water. In the process, they can cool and dehumidify kitchens, laundries, and other hard-to-condition spaces. The project interviewed experts to determine the market segments which could benefit most from HPWH, and the major barriers to their greater use. The project also produced a method for sizing HPWH, a rating method, and a restaurant case study based on field monitoring.
