Robert M. Balzar

Robert M. Balzar is the Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Demand Response for the Tennessee Valley Authority. He is responsible for the planning, design, implementation and verification of TVA’s energy efficiency, demand response, pricing and small scale renewable programs (2010 budget of $135M with staff of 62).

From June 2007 to June 2010, Mr. Balzar was the Conservation Resources Director at Seattle City Light. He was responsible for the planning, design, implementation and verification of Seattle City Light’s conservation, customer load management, and small scale renewable programs.  He oversaw a staff of 91 professionals and directed a yearly budget in excess of $40M.

His previous experience includes:

  • Director of Marketing and Product Development for Pinnacle Homes in Las Vegas.
  • 21 years at Sierra Pacific Power and Nevada Power Companies, in a variety of engineering and leadership positions. Last position as Director of Energy Efficiency and Conservation
  • Five years leading a team that developed/grew the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Department at these two utilities.

He is a Member of the following:

  • Ex officio Board Member of Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance
  • Ex officio Member of the Steering Committee of the Clean and Efficient Energy Program for Public Power
  • Executive participant of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency
  • Previously served as Board Member for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance
  • Previously served on the State of Nevada Task Force on Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation
  • Previously a Board member of Southwest Energy Efficiency Program, Boulder, Colorado

Mr. Balzar’s education includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in California and Nevada. He is married, with three children and three grandchildren.
