ALL THE NEWS ABOUT ACEEE'S 2008 CONFERENCES

The 12th Annual National Symposium on Market Transformation (MT), which will take place March 30 – April 1, 2008 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, will explore the long-term opportunities and challenges for MT through a stimulating program covering the latest in program strategies, innovative and ambitious initiatives for expediting energy efficiency, industry partnerships, and new approaches to program evaluation. This year's theme is "Using Market Transformation to Address Climate Change" and will be anchored by an opening plenary about policy drivers that can support more aggressive market transformation approaches directed toward climate change mitigation. Large breakout sessions will cover the broad scope of new market transformation activity including local action, big, bold initiatives, the business case for energy efficiency, new regional activities, and new directions in emerging technologies and gas programs. Smaller working sessions will allow more in-depth discussions of timely issues.

The Energy Efficiency Finance Forum will be held April 10-11, 2008 at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Virginia. This is the 2nd annual forum organized by ACEEE and Financial Research Associates (FRA) to bring investors, financiers, utilities, and policymakers together to focus on market drivers, technologies, effective financing structures, and regulatory issues affecting the energy efficiency industry. The challenge to the participants, "Are you poised and positioned to take advantage of the explosion of financing opportunities in the energy efficiency landscape?" will be delivered by some of the best experts in the field including:

  • James E. Rogers, Chairman, Duke Energy
  • Bill White, Mayor, City of Houston
  • Jon Wellinghoff, Commissioner, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
  • Alex Sink, Chief Financial Officer, State of Florida
  • Amory Lovins, Chief Executive Officer, Rocky Mountain Institute
  • Paul Tonko, Chief Executive Officer, NYSERDA
  • Timothy Wirth, President, United Nations Foundation
  • Dan Reicher, Director of Climate Change, Google

JUST ANNOUNCED!
The 2008 Forum on Water Heating and Use: Getting Into Hot Water is the first-ever ACEEE forum on this topic and will be held June 1-3, 2008 at the Radisson Hotel Sacramento. In response to growing interest in increasing energy efficiency in water heating, the forum will bring together leading experts from manufacturing; distribution; electricity, gas and water utilities; government; and the research community to learn from each other and build momentum for market transformation in residential and light commercial water heating. The conference will provide a forum for discussing both the technical efficiency potential and the policy or program implications across three areas: hot water generation, distribution, and use.

Harvey Sachs, ACEEE, is Conference Chair; Industry Co-chairs are: Bill Hoover, A.O. Smith and Lance DeLauro, Sempra Utilities. The Preliminary Program has been posted, but check back for program updates. Register online now at the Early Bird rate of $425 until April 15, 2008.

Preparations for the 2008 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings are well underway. The "Buildings" Summer Study will take place August 17-22, 2008 at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California. Conference Co-Chairs Michael Baechler, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Rich Brown, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, chose "Scaling Up: Building Tomorrow's Solutions" as the overarching theme for 2008 and recruited 25 energy efficiency experts to organize 12 topic panels. Nearly 300 abstracts have been selected for development into peer-reviewed papers. Other highlights of the week-long Summer Study will include Display Sessions, plenaries, and "informal sessions" organized onsite by participants.

ACEEE will also present "Champion of Energy Efficiency" awards at the 2008 Summer Study. Nominations will open in April. Watch your e-mail for notification. To learn more about these awards, visit our Web site.
