ACEEE's research and communications staff teamed up once again to create the latest and most extensive upgrade yet to the popular Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings, now in its 9th edition. For nearly two decades the Consumer Guide has been widely used by individuals and utilities as a one-stop resource for consumers who want to improve their home's energy performance, lower their costs, and reduce their environmental impact.

For readers new to the book, the Consumer Guide looks at each area of your homesuch as electronics, lighting, heating, cooling, kitchen and laundryand outlines the most cost-effective options for improving efficiency and purchasing new equipment. The first chapter provides an overview of the inter-relationships among home energy use, economics, and environmental impacts. The authors take a balanced approach in recommending the best ways to save energy and money in order to help consumers identify the top priorities in their own homes along with what to do next.

The 9th edition welcomes return readers with two new chapters and substantially revised content to provide an in-depth look at what the energy-conscious should know about such the latest in such areas as consumer electronics, indoor air quality concerns, LEDs, compact fluorescent lamps, front-loading washers, and tankless and solar water heaters. Other improvements to the guide include updated and expanded illustrations, charts, tables, and information resources to help consumers set priorities, weigh their options, and make better purchase decisions.

We are excited to have a new partner in publishing and promoting the book. New Society Publishers specializes in books that provide tools to "build a new society." We are proud to relate that each Consumer Guide is now printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

Bulk sales discounts are available from ACEEE for utilities or efficiency program operators who wish to redistribute the guide as a reinforcement to their program or educational tool. Hard copies of the book can be ordered for $16.95 (plus shipping and handling) directly from ACEEE (see www.aceee.org/consumer) and are also available from major retail booksellers.
