GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME: THE NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MARKET TRANSFORMATION

Nearly 400 participants from across the U.S. and Canada made the 11th annual National Symposium on Market Transformation a great success and the largest Market Transformation conference in its 11-year history. The conference was co-sponsored by ACEEE and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) in Washington, D.C. on March 19-21, 2007. The conference theme, "Accelerating the Pace: Deepening and Broadening Efficiency Efforts," was highlighted by plenary talks by Joseph Romm from the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions, and Blair Hamilton of Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, who kicked off the symposium by presenting their views on how market transformation must grow to meet global environmental and economic challenges. The conference also featured a keynote address by Wal-Mart Senior Director Harriet Hentges who discussed the facets of Wal-Mart’s sustainability initiative and the implications of such industry-led efforts for market transformation.

Market Transformation professionals representing national, state, and regional energy efficiency organizations, utilities, government agencies, research organizations, consulting firms and manufacturers came together at the 2007 symposium to discuss how to expand the reach of energy efficiency, both geographically and into new product areas. Through discussion-based sessions and other venues, participants shared and explored a range of topics, from innovative program planning and marketing strategies, to regional and international trends and opportunities for strategic partnerships. The record number of attendees was evidence of the increasing prominence of energy efficiency as a cost-effective resource.

Full program details and speakers’ presentations are available online. An associated story about some of the conference presentations will be available soon in e.Valuation, the online newsletter of the Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO). EVO's measurement and verification (M&V) tools play a role in several issues discussed at the conference. Visit the EVO Web site.
