PLUG-IN HYBRIDS PROMISING, BUT BETTER BATTERIES AND CLEANER POWER PLANTS ESSENTIAL
Our new report "Plug-In Hybrids: An
Environmental and Economic Outlook" finds that the technology still faces hurdles, but could prove
very valuable in reducing oil dependence. The report summarizes
plug-ins' likely performance in terms of oil savings, the environment,
and cost-effectiveness, using today's hybrids as the baseline for
comparison. We recommend a concerted effort to get battery costs
down and clean up the power grid while keeping sight of the broader
context and goals for vehicle efficiency policy. Read the press
release.
