ACEEE'S GRAPEVINE ONLINE

About ACEEE --> ACEEE Newsletters --> Issue #6 --> Article #4

May 16, 2005

PROGRESS CONTINUES ON STATE AND NEGOTIATED STANDARDS

Since the February Grapevine, there has been substantial additional progress on standard issues. Significant developments include:

  • ACEEE and other efficiency supporters reached agreements with manufacturers on consensus national standards for commercial ice makers and clothes washers.
  • The Arizona, Washington, and Colorado legislatures all adopted efficiency standards legislation. The Arizona governor signed their bill into law, and the Washington governor is expected to sign their bill soon, but unfortunately, the Colorado governor vetoed their bill with a statement saying federal standards are preferable.
  • DOE informed ACEEE and others that our petition asking DOE to begin a new rulemaking for residential refrigerators has been accepted, and that DOE will decide on what priority to assign this rulemaking by the end of 2005 (see the press release).
